PAUL NEWMAN, 1925-2008 - October 2nd, 2008.

And another one passes! Paul Newman, an Academy-Award winning actor (for The Color of Money in 1986) and 10-time Academy Award nominee, passed away at his home in Westport, Connecticut on September 26th from cancer. He was eighty-three years old, and had starred in films such as Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Hustler, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (the role he is probably most remembered for) among multiple others. He created the line of food products "Newman's Own" which included salad dressing and coffee, which is sold at McDonalds, in which all of the profits were donated to the multiple charities he was involved in. He will be greatly missed, and the newspapers in my area did multiple write-ups on him since Westport isn't too far from where I am. Another interesting bit of trivia was that he didn't sign autographs because he didn't believe in them and thought they were disgraceful. Who would've thought that! So, rest in peace, Mr. Newman, and may we remember you as we always remember our true legends.

A COMPLETE RE-VAMP! - September 20th, 2008.

I know it's been about a year since I've updated Classic Stardust, but I have truly not given up on it. In truth, since this past year was my first experience with homeschooling, and it wasn't quite paced the right way, so all summer I had to finish up the books and such. But, I've got a lot of new ideas for the website that I've been planning out (expect a lot of information and many photographs!), so please keep checking back! So, to make up for lost time, I'm planning on making this the best I possibly can. Expect great things relatively soon!!! The new header (I hope everyone likes it, it took hours!) features silent screen actress Anita Page, who just recently passed way this past September 6th. She was the last person alive who attended the first Academy Awards ceremony in 1929, and was one of the last few remaining actors with us who starred in silent pictures. She was in many films amongst Buster Keaton, Lon Chaney, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., and that's just half of 'em! She recently came out of retirement and was actively involved in the movie industry up until her death a few weeks ago. One of the movies she just completed is now in post-production. It's so sad to hear when someone with such knowledge of old Hollywood/someone who lived through it has died, but she was in her nineties and thankfully, passed away peacefully in her sleep. And you can't ask for a better way to go than that! - Gina (webmaster)
